Why waste time browsing? Let the news come to you!
Most of us spend way too much time keeping up to date. Imagine if you could save all the time you spend searching and browsing through news, blogs and uninteresting e-mails every day! YONC searches and filters all the sources you want, and presents the interesting items through the Feed Reader. Attached is an information folder with more information about YONC.
Customers and partners we meet both in Europe and the US become excited when show them YONC. Now YOU are granted a free trial of our newest plug-in in your own Notes client at no cost!
Installation is as simple as opening an attachment:
1) Activate “My Widgets” in Lotus Notes: View – Sidebar Panels – My Widgets
2) Open the “My Widgets” space and drag the extensions.xml from this page into it.
After restarting the Notes client, YONC feed filter is installed in your sidebar panel. Open it, and fill in your e-mail address and choose a password. Also, YONC feed library* is installed, where you can search for feeds.
At this point you are already started – a template of groups are there for your utility. You may change or remove them as you like. To start reading filtered feeds, drag the groups to the Feed Reader (titled Feeds).
New feeds can be added
1) by dragging them from the feed library search result, or
2) you may add them manually. Just right click the group and select Add feed.
If you don’t know the exact feed URL, try entering the URL of your favorite news sources in the “Add channel” dialog to see if they announce any feeds from their front page. Take a look at this page for some more help on how to get started with Web Feeds: http://www.yonc.com/tips/
YONC feed library contains all channels that are added to the demo server. The library grows continuously, as we and users are adding more channels. To improve the search results, it is useful to tag new channels. Tags are a list of key words, separated by a space.
You can share your groups with others by right clicking, select Share with others, and add the e-mail address(es) of the person(s) you would like to have read access to your group.
You can get automatic updates when we release new versions of the YONC Plug-in. You just need to select that you want to receive updates in Preferences -> Install/Update -> Automatic Updates:
[ ] Automatically find new updates and notify me
As far as we have revealed, this menu choice is unfortunately only available if the following line is added to the file plugin_customization.ini:
com.ibm.notes.branding/enable.update.ui=true
We want to know what you think. The plug-in provided has been through all our test routines. All tested software still contain bugs, though, and if you should encounter some, we appreciate your feedback in our user forum. Please register to gain access to it.
